Not an expense — it's an investment

"Supporting at risk kids is not an expense," says Mark Thiessen, director of instructional services for the High School Completion Program in Barrhead, Albert, told The Barrhead Leader. "It’s an investment."

That's why Thiessen's district has invested in High School Completion Liaisons — who work one-on-one with at-risk students to help them stay on track toward graduation.

The program has helped reduce the dropout rate — which in turns keeps government funding steadily coming into the Barrhead schools.
