Imagineering education

Ever heard of the Imagineers?

The famed Disney division comprises hundreds of visionary professionals — from illustrators to architects to engineers to creative writers — who have been given the green light to engage in "blue sky speculation," a process in which they're encouraged to generate ideas for Disney attractions with no limitations.

Can you imagine what might happen if we were to devote such creative energy to the problems facing education in America?

The city of Boston took a small step in that direction recently when it launched its "Division of Innovation and Development."

"We have not always established the infrastructure for innovation," Superintendent Carol Johnson said at a recent event announcing the division, according to Boston.com.
