"I am obsessed with zero dropouts"

At Wisconsin's Menomonie High School, principal David Munoz has a three-school strategy for keeping students in school.

The first is Menomonie High — a traditional brick-and-mortar institution that fulfills the education needs of most students. A second school, Menomonie Virtual School, offers more than 100 online classes — enough to offer students the opportunity to complete their high school diploma entirely online, according to the Leader-Telegram newspaper. Finally, the Lucas Charter School is for at-risk students who want an alternative to the traditional high school experience.

"I am obsessed with zero dropouts," Munoz said. "It's always been my goal. I've never had a zero dropout rate, but I've gotten close."
