Fresno Unified needs a leader willing to address the dropout crisis now

In the latest installment of the Fresno Unified School District dropout saga, the district's board has asked Superintendent Michael Hanson to explore the creation of a dropout intervention commission — and they've given him until February to do it.

Whoa.

Asked?

Explore?

Commission?

February!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

How much put-offsmanship will the Fresno community permit?

We've been watching this situation unfold for a while now — and waiting for someone to step up and be an actual leader.

Here's the first step: Stop arguing about numbers. Whether it's 10 percent or 40 percent really doesn't matter. Fresno (like all districts in the United States) has a dropout problem.

There are proven interventions tin use all across the country — and every minute spent arguing over numbers is a minute spent not engaging in those interventions.
